Fabrics

We can make a flag or banner out of just about any fabric paper, satin, silk polyester, cotton, pvc, linen etc.

One question that is repeatedly asked, is "How long will my flag last?".

We can not give an exact answer on how long the flag will last. No matter how well it is made, a flag is only a piece of material and is used outside in varying conditions such as wind, rain or UV. However, reasonable care can contribute greatly to a longer life.

Removing flags in the high wind, avoiding direct or intense sunlight or even days where there are hi levels of UV can all contribute towards the flag lasting longer.

There are many flag materials that can be used to make custom flags with, here at The Flag Factory we use 3 main materials and they are:

80,90,100 OR 120D POLYESTER

80D-120D polyester – Made of a thin polyester this can be used for special events and promotions. This material can be used for both indoors and outdoors. Durability can be an issue (80-90d) if longevity is required.

This fabric can be printed using the following techniques, silk screening and dye sublimation and direct to fabric print, the flag material is printed on one side and it bleeds through to the other side. The image will be seen on the other side in reverse or mirror image. There is some minimal loss of color on the reverse side.

200D KNITTED POLYESTER

200D Knitted polyester – this material will last longer than woven polyester and it is one of the strongest and most durable materials available for flag making.

If you are going to fly your flag 24/7/365 this is the material for you and it needs very little wind to move it.

This fabric can also be printed using the following techniques, silk screening and dye sublimation and direct to fabric print, the flag material are printed on one side and it bleeds through to the other side. The image will be seen on the other side in reverse or mirror image. There is some minimal loss of colour on the reverse side. Optional is a double sided print.

WOVEN/400D SPUN POLYESTER

Spun polyester is the most durable flag material available. The weave which is open reduces fabric stress and resists high winds. This flag material is the only choice if you fly the flag at higher altitudes and where wind speed is consistently high.

As spun polyester flags is a heavier fabric it requires a higher wind speed to ensure it flies.

This fabric can be printed using the following techniques, silk screening and dye sublimation, the flag material is printed on one side and it bleeds through to the other side. The image will be seen on the other side in reverse or mirror image. There is some minimal loss of colour on the reverse side.

If a design needs to be digital print then Spun polyester is not available.

Ultimately the choice of fabric should be determined by the location of where the flag is to be flown and the general weather conditions in that area.

There is no point in ordering a flag in lower grades of polyester if your flag will be flown in extreme weather conditions. It just won’t last long.

Please note the heavier the flag the more wind required to move the flag.
